The multicultural artist Stephen Liu (Shuang), living in China, Italy and England; brings a set of values and methodologies into his work. He graduated from the department of Graphic Branding and Identity at the University of the Arts London, and is currently undertaking a masters degree in fine arts at the Chelsea college of Art, University of the Arts London. Through his artistic talent and the eye of a graphic designer, he brings an interesting skill into his work, of compositions and combinations of materials in his performances and installations.
As and experimental and Avant-garde artist, designer and creative director; Stephen integrates the European and Asian are, traditions and cultural heritage resulting in a unique design language. Through the vision of storytelling, he combines the western spirit of punk and rebellion with the oriental philosophy and culture - showing the two extremes of opposing aesthetics and concepts of humility and radicalism, while conveying an elegant and rare essence in his imagery.
The artists works engage around the notions of the struggling nature of memory, and questioning wether ones vulnerability is affected by time, the minds thought itself, or both. His projects revolve aound the experimentation of ready-made objects, in which he has had interest in since his childhood. Stephens conversations often revolve around his personal experiences and emotions around love and pain - an interesting image visible to the naked eye, thus creating powerful and eye-catching works.
Stephens works to date include Imprisonment/Nightmare/Cage/Armor (2023), Dying Alive (2023), Little Series (2024) and L´Inferno series, each exploring the tensions within ones evolving memory, between life, decay and the human condition. Through these pieces, Stephen export his childhood memory, delving into the depths and manifestations of his nightmares and dark moments of existence. Stephens culture and values of individualism, fight against the mainstream probes - refusing to disappear unto the crowd of broken dreams.
Most recently Stephen has participated in “Echoes of Broken Souls” (2024-2025) curated by Euonia Curators in collaboration with Viva Viva Palestina fundraiser, Genova; “Simbiosi Poetica” (2024/2025) second Florence annual international art Exhibition and works at the “Cookhouse Gallery” (2024 - 2025) at the Chelsea College of Arts. Stephen was honed for the the Outstanding Visual award at the Palazzo Bellini, Museo Bellini Collection 2025, in collaboration with Regione Toscana, Commune Di Firenze, Association Nazionale Di Belle Art D´Italia, Associazione Nomya, Mucci International Culture and Art Management LTD. Toscana TV, Kore Arte Contemporanea, Augusta S.R.L.S. and Lory Digital Fine Art.
